Darkwing is a distant prequel to the Silverwing trilogy and follows the journey of Dusk, a Chiropter whose distinct differences from the rest of his colony serve as a depiction of an early ancestor to bats. The story is set in the early Paleocene epoch, shortly after the extinction of large reptiles and mammals begin to flourish as the primary species on the planet.

Synopsis[]

Dusk is a newborn chiropter who is distinctly different from his peers - his legs are weaker, has two claws insted of three, his sails are furless, and he can hear things that other chiropters can't. Furthermore, he finds that from the moment his father pushes him off the tree, Dusk yearns to flap. But in his colony, being different means being shunned or worse, so he forces himself to glide like everyone else and keeps his secret to himself.

Meanwhile, a felid called Carnassial has developed a hidden desire to feed on flesh. And when he finally gives into his instincts, a vicious predator is born. When it becomes clear that the age of the saurians are ending, Carnassial is determined to ensure that his kind, following his new ways, will become the ruler of the beasts.
