-Goth

Goth is the primary antagonist of the Silverwing series. He is a spectral bat (Vampyrum spectrum) from the jungles of Central and South America who finds himself lost in the northern forests along with fellow Vampyrum spectrum, Throbb.

In the novels, Goth is described as being gigantic in comparison to the northern bats. He has a massive chest and powerful muscles, as well as a three-foot-wide wingspan. He has tall pointed ears, a long snout, black eyes and a flat, leaf-shaped nose. Goth was captured by the humans prior to the events of Silverwing and wears a black band on his forearm.

Personality[]

He is opportunistic and has little sympathy for others, determined to do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals. Similarly to the other Vampyrum spectrum of his colony, Goth is a staunch disciple of Cama Zotz and takes it as his personal duty to fulfill his god's plan.

In the TV series[]

Goth is the main antagonist of the show, along with Throbb. Unlike in the books, Throbb is his brother-in-law, while he was simply a hunting partner in Silverwing. They were captured and banded by scientists, who bring the pair up to a research facility in the north. They escape and fed on the local animals, starting rumors of bats attacking birds.

Goth and Throbb met Shade and Marina by killing an owl that was stalking the pair of smaller bats. After Goth explains that he and Throbb are from the south and are trying to get back to their home, Shade offers to guide them southward in exchange for their protection from birds.

Goth and Throbb then are often seen chasing the two small bats throughout out the remainder of the show, acting as the main antagonists. He later joins forces with the wolves and attacks the owls at Hibernaculum. He falls for Shade's trick and falls in the water, but not before trying to drag Shade down with him. He is presumed dead.

Trivia[]

  • Goth and Throbb are not technically cannibals, as the bats that they eat are not their own species.
  • In the TV series, Goth is portrayed by Michael Dobson.
  • In the TV series, Goth's band is made out of a brass or copper-like material, where as in the novels, it is described as being black.
