Appearance[]

Miacis is a felid, a prehistoric feline creature. Like other felids, her entire body is covered in fur. She has sharp teeth, long claws, and pointed ears.

Personality[]

Miacis is calm and a skilled hunter. Before leaving Patriofelis's prowl, she was revered as an accomplished scout for saurian eggs. She is loyal to Carnassial and often acts as his second-in-command, performing duties such as scouting and accompanying him on hunts.

Biography[]

Darkwing[]

Miacis is one of twenty-five felids who approached Carnassial after he was exiled by Patriofelis. She explains to Carnassial that her and the others all crave meat as well, and have come to meet him in secret. She begins to suggest returning to Patriofelis as a united group to negotiate before Carnassial vetoes the idea. She proposes that the group attempts to overthrow Patriofelis, but Carnassial is not confident they could win. After being presented with Carnassial's offer to leave the prowl and accept him as their new leader, Miacis voices her and the other felids' agreement.

Miacis quickly proved herself to be one of Carnassial's most adept hunters. After the prowl arrives on the island, they spot the chiropters' sequoia. Carnassial whispers his plans to Miacis and the felids begin their assault on the colony.

After the felids drive the chiropters out from the sequoia, Carnassial sends Miacis to track the chiropters' movements around the island. Miacis moved near the coast of the island, watching the chiropters prepare for the descent towards the mainland. She quickly turned and ran back to the sequoia, informing Carnassial of the colony's status. He is surprised at this and orders Miacis to gather the rest of the felids and stop the chiropters from escaping.

Carnassial and his prowl reach the chiropters, but their attempts to thwart their escape are unsuccessful. In frustration at his defeat, Carnassial demands to know where the sand bridge to the mainland went. Miacis explains that the bridge would not appear until several hours later at sunset. Carnassial angrily asks why she didn't tell him sooner that the chiropters were on the move, to which Miacis responds that she did not know they intended to leave for the mainland, reminding Carnassial that he only ordered her to follow them. Frustrated and looking for something to pin the blame on, Carnassial lunges and bites Miacis's ear, leaving a bloody wound, before declaring that they will be able to survive without the chiropters.

Now Carnassial's most frequent hunting partner, Miacis accompanies him on a trek through the forest. The pair comes across a nest with multiple large, white eggs of indeterminate species inside. Miacis comments that they almost resemble saurian eggs, prompting Carnassial to tentatively lick the exterior shell. Carnassial is about to invite her to have a taste as well, when she is suddenly seized by a large winged creature. Its hooked claws grab her by the back before it delivers the killing blow to her neck with its beak. The large bird dropped Miacis onto a nearby branch and perched on top, beginning to feast on her corpse.

Etymology[]

Miacis refers to a genus of extinct prehistoric carnivorous mammals that lived during the late Paleocene through to the Eocene, a stretch of time taking place approximately 65.5 million to 33.9 million years ago. Miacis is a diverse group including miacids, the ancestors of modern carniforms ("dog-like" animals) such as wolves, jackals, coyotes, and foxes.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The extinct Miacis genus was the inspiration for the felids in Darkwing.[2]
