Zephyr is a character in the Silverwing series. He is a bat who lives in a cathedral in a human city, acting as the "Keeper of the Spire". He has the somewhat supernatural abilities to interpret both past and future events by trapping sound and to send sound messages over extremely long distances.

Personality[]

Zephyr is calm and wise. He has a great breadth of knowledge about the world, regarding both bats and humans. He is skilled in the art of healing and is able to channel sound to interpret specialized information.

Appearance[]

Zephyr is an elderly albino bat with pure white fur and pale skin as a result of his albinism. The flesh on his wings are light and translucent, making the outline of his veins visible. His wings appear to become darker and sparkle when he is concentrating on interpreting sound. His ears are tall and pointed. His eyes are glazed over with cataracts from his age and he is completely blind.

Etymology[]

A zephyr refers to a gentle breeze, taken from Zephyrus, the god and personification of the west wind in Greek mythology. Zephyrus is also associated with the springtime, the time of year North American bat species migrate.
